Our tours that include Lumo Conservancy are perfect for elephant lovers, elephant foster parents & ‘would-be supporters’ of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
You will experience visiting the Giraffe Centre and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi on an exclusive private basis mingling with the ‘nursery orphan herd’ while chatting with their Head Keeper.
You will then transfer to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Reintegration Units in Tsavo whilst staying at the SWT’s private Eco-Camps; Ithumba Camp or Ithumba Hill Camp and Umani Springs.
Here you will learn more about the ‘Orphans Project’ experience being ‘up close & personal’ with the orphaned elephants and their Keepers, often accompanied by ex-orphans and wild elephants.
During your safari, you will stay at Lion’s Bluff Camp in the Lumo Conservancy where you will experience a traditional-style wildlife safari and also visit the SWT reintegration unit at Voi to meet the orphans in their stockades.
Lumo Conservancy is an environmental gem in southern Kenya, located between the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and Tsavo West National Park. This geographic location, part of the larger Tsavo Ecosystem, makes the Conservancy a crucial wildlife corridor, fostering biodiversity and ensuring free movement for migratory animals, especially elephants. Encompassing over 46,000 hectares of diverse African landscapes, the Conservancy is a mosaic of open savannahs, rolling hills, riverine woodlands, and waterholes.
Among the resident fauna, you’ll find iconic lions, elephants, buffaloes, and leopards, marking it a prime location for wildlife enthusiasts. Bird watchers find a paradise here, too, with over 300 recorded bird species, including the African fish eagle and the crowned crane, adorning the skies with their vibrant hues and melodious calls.
The best months to visit are January, February, June through to October.
Daytime temperatures can range from 27-30 C / 80-86 F depending on your month of travel.
